USPS has been issuing postal stamps for decades. For something that’s been around that long, it makes sense to wonder if they have an expiration date.

So if your desk is cluttered with stamps, don’t worry! Find out when USPS stamps are due to expire.

Do USPS Stamps Expire In 2022? (Not What You Think)

Do USPS Stamps Expire In 2022?

USPS stamps don’t expire as long as they are still in great condition. Forever Stamps, which USPS has been issuing since 2007, are non-denominational and always reflect the current rate of first-class postage. A dollar-valued stamp does not expire. They must be combined and used with another stamp to display the current postage rate.

  • Your stamps will not expire but it can be difficult to determine their value. Read on to find out the value of your stamps!
  • What can I do to find out if my USPS stamps are still good?

All you have to do is glance to determine if the stamps of USPS are still in good condition.

You may stick the “Forever” stamp on an envelope to send your letter. ).

USPS considers Forever Stamps “non-denominated” postage. It means that the stamps do not have any monetary value on them.

Forever stamps have a value that changes with the value first-class mail. The current value for first-class stamps will determine the worth of a Forever Stamp.

Forever Stamps are available for purchase today. If postage costs go up tomorrow, stamps purchased at lower prices will be reflected in the value of first-class mail.

USPS has other stamps available, including Forever Stamps. There are many denominations available, such as 10C/ or 2C/.

These stamps may be used at any time you choose. However, you’ll need to check the current cost of postage to see how many to use.

When you are aware of how much it costs to postage, you can use as many cent stamps that you like.

You should also keep in mind that stamps of monetary worth may be printed with one year.

This tells you the year USPS adopted your stamp. It has nothing to do with an expiration date. Just like Forever Stamps, these stamps don’t expire.

    What about old USPS stamps?

You can, in most cases. Your old stamps can still be used as long as the USPS validates them as valid postage.

The stamp is legal if it adheres to the envelope cleanly.

USPS can reject a stamp that is damaged. The following are reasons why stamps may be refused:

  • Broken or missing border
  • It is difficult to read, blurred, covered, or smeared the price/value stamp.
  • The stamp has lost its adhesiveness. USPS will reject stamps covered with tape or glue.

If in doubt about any of the old stamps that are sitting around your junk drawer then bring them to USPS. A mail clerk will make the final call.

How Long Are USPS Forever Stamps Good For?

USPS Forever Stamps, as the name implies, are valid forever.

Forever Stamps have no fixed value. This is in contrast to stamps from the past, which were marked with a dollar value. They are instead valued according to USPS postage rates.

The current rate of first-class mailage will apply to your Forever Stamp purchase

If you don’t use the stamp for five years and the postage rate goes up (which it undoubtedly will), your Forever Stamp will reflect the current value of first-class postage.

To make it clearer, let’s take a look at an illustration. Forever Stamps came out in 2007, which was the year that first-class mail cost $0.41.

The current cost of the Forever Stamps was $0.58. Forever Stamps purchased between 2007-2020 have a value of $0.58 even though they cost less.

    Are Global Forever(r), Stamps Expiring?

Just like domestic Forever Stamps, USPS’ Global Forever(r) stamps never expire.

Global Forever(r), is part of USPS First Class Mail International (r). This is the most inexpensive way to send letters or postcards to more 180 countries (including Canada, Great Britain and Australia).

With one Global Forever(r) stamp, you’re able to send 1oz letters or postcards pretty much anywhere in the world for one flat rate.

Even if your postage rises, your stamps will remain valid and available to send your mail.

    Are USPS Shipping Labels Expired?

USPS shipping label have an expiration day, which is different from stamps. Technically speaking, USPS shipping labels “expire” 28 days after you purchase them.

Although day 28 is considered the cutoff, this rule doesn’t apply to all cases. In general, USPS will give you a 2 to 3 day grace period when using shipping labels.

Each Post Office has the right to exercise their discretion.

  • Some areas may still accept labels even after the print ship date. Even if the label is only one day old, some locations might reject it. Everything depends.
  • If you are not satisfied with labels from your Post Office, or if they refuse to be accepted by you, then you should contact the Postmaster.

Be patient if they won’t listen. USPS will not scan the labels you provide when you make your purchase.

It means tracking numbers will never be entered in their system. It is possible to ask for a refund through your online shipping program and get a replacement label.

  • Conclusion
  • As a general rule, USPS stamps don’t expire. This applies to all USPS stamps: Forever Stamps, Global Forever(r), and denominational stamps. If your stamps have not been damaged, are in good condition, and you can use them as normal.

USPS labels for shipping are valid even though USPS stamps can’t be renewed. While shipping labels last for 28 calendar days, they can be used up to a maximum of 14 weeks from date of purchase. Depending on the local Post Office, you might have more time.
