If you lose your receipt, you’ll still be able to return items to Target and receive a Target Merchandise Return Card. You can only use this card in-store to reduce fraud from online purchases.
Each return that you make will result in a new Merchandise Return Card. You must have a valid ID in order to receive Target’s Merchandise Return Card.
It’s also worth noting that even without a receipt, Target can still facilitate your return process if you didn’t use cash for your purchase but paid using:
- Target RedCard
- Gift Card from Target
- A blank check from the same checking account
- Visa, American Express Mastercard or Discovery Credit Cards
If everything checks out and your item is eligible for a refund, it’s applied automatically.
How Can I Use A Few Dollars Left On A Store Gift Card?
If the balance does not fall below the state-mandated threshold or your state does not require cashing out miniscule gift cards, then the only thing to do is simply use the gift card.
If you can, use the entirety of the gift card balance when you first redeem the gift card. This is the easiest way to go. To make sure your purchase doesn’t exceed the amount, you can find a smaller item at the cash register. Though I’m not suggesting you spend the money frivilously, I do believe that it is better to buy something in the moment than to let the tiny balance go to waste-which is what it seems most people do.
My gift cards are kept next to my debit and credit cards. When I’m in a shop, my gift cards remind me that they are available for purchase. These are some other ways I remember to use gift certificates.

How To Request A Refund On A Target Gift Card Via The Mail?
To request a refund on a Target gift card via Mail, you will need to follow the below-mentioned steps:-
- Log in to the official site and enter your username and password.
- Log on to your account and visit the order section. To do this, click on the Orders tab.
- Review the ordered product and select the product for which you are looking for a refund.
- Simply tap the Return tab after you have received the product.
- You will find the Return by Mail option. Once you have it, choose it.
- You will then need to choose the Refund Items item from the list. Next, provide a reason why you are returning the product.

How Can I Use The Last Few Dollars Left On A Visa Gift Card?
You think you can’t use a Visa gift certificate with less than a dollar on it? You can’t buy Mastercard gift cards if the balance exceeds the transaction. Think again. The gift card can be used in either of these cases. However, you might need to do some extra work to get the entire value of your gift card.
As explained above and in the video at the top of this blog post, I do it all the time. The key is to keep the gift cards handy so you remember to use them, know the balance of the cards and tell the cashier that you need to use more than one form of payment for the transaction.

How do I return items to Target without a receipt?
These are the steps to return an item to Target.
1. Take the items you want to return along with all accessories and parts.
2. It will be easier for you to return your item if it is still in its original packaging. It is not necessary.
3. Take the item (and any accompanying materials) to a Target store near you. Or, if you purchased the item online, you can return it by mail.
4. When you get to the store, head to Guest Services and let them know that you would like to return an item. They will give you a form to fill out and provide you with a receipt.
5. If returning the item in-store, you can then proceed to the returns desk to make your exchange or receive a refund.
6. If returning the item by mail, package it up securely and include the completed form and your original receipt. Then send it on its way back to Target.
Target Return Policy Without A Receipt
You can return almost all items to Target even if you do not have the receipt. However, you may only receive a refund in the form of a Target gift card. The amount of the gift card will be based on the item’s current selling price.
Electronics and other digital media have a 30 day return policy. And clearance items can only be returned if they’re defective.
Return an item to Target’s Guest Services Desk without the receipt. Before a return can be processed, you will need to present a photo ID and answer some questions regarding your purchase.
You May Or May Not Get Refunds For Coupons
If you return an item you purchased with a manufacturer coupon, you may or may not be refunded for the value of that coupon. It can happen both ways, and I haven’t seen any official policy.
The truth is that Target has likely already sent the coupon away to the manufacturer for reimbursement. So even though no one is seeking to defraud the manufacturer for the value of the coupon, if you return an item you used a MFR coupon to buy, that’s what’s happening whether Target hands you the money back or not.
It is my best practice to not return products that I have purchased using a coupon from the manufacturer.
Target Holiday Return Policy goes into effect on October 1
Target’s holiday return policy basically freezes all normal returns policies until December 26th.
This applies to purchases between October 1 and December 25.
- All purchases falling under the Target general return policy are required to be returned before March 26.
- Most purchases made with RedCards must be returned by April 25.
- Electronics and Entertainment items that carry a 30-day return window must be returned by January 24.
- Apple products (excluding phones) that carry a 15-day return window must be returned by January 9.
- Mobile phones that carry a 14-day return window must be returned by January 8.
No Returns on Target Policy after 90 days
Target has a different return policy than regular. It will accept returns after 90 days. If you don’t have the receipt and your item is not in its original condition, then no refunds will be granted.
You will receive your full refund if you have the receipt. You can return an item if you don’t have your receipt or it is more than 90 days old. However, the target gift card will be refunded the original amount.
Target has a very generous return policy. It allows you to return the product within 90 days. If you do not have your receipt, the store will still issue a refund as long as you have your credit or debit card used to purchase the product. Target will not give you merchandise credits if the product has been used more than 90 days.
This policy ensures that you always have the opportunity to get your money back for a product you no longer want. Target will keep all of your information, including credit and debit cards, on file so you are able to return unwanted items in the future.
