Abstract
Introduction: The physiotherapy profession is not subject to an international standard. In many countries, registration is required to ensure that standards are maintained and the public’s safety. But, international workforce mobility may be limited by registration.
Question: Do you know anything about international mobility restrictions for people with physiotherapy degrees?
Design: A systematic review of World Confederation for Physical Therapy (ICPT) websites by hand and electronic database searches. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.
From the search strategy, 10 articles were found and eight websites. The data is representative of English-speaking countries with high incomes. There were four main themes in relation to limitations on professional mobility: practice context and qualification recognition; verification of ability to practice and other limitations that may arise from the registration process.
Conclusion: Different physiotherapy education programs can restrict professional mobility. As part of registration, assessments are often required to confirm clinical competencies. It has not been possible to evaluate registration practices. At the moment, it is necessary to review current registration processes in order to improve workforce mobility and efficiency.

University Courses
There are many courses, but they all share a lot of practice with patients.
You will need to have two or three A Levels, which include a biology and/or psychology, and five GCSEs (grades A-C), English language and maths, in order to be eligible for a physiotherapy degree.

An Intense Description
The School of Allied Health offers a two-year MSc (Professional Qualification) in Physiotherapy, Level 9 (NQAI).
These students who have completed their last year in a Level-8 Degree program can still apply. However, they may not be granted a full-time position.
Students in their final year of a Level-8 Degree may apply for a conditional position (depending upon GAMSAT scores). They will need to provide evidence that they have a minimum of 2h2 in their undergraduate degree. In addition to the academic modules offered by UL, Prof Qual students studying MSc Physiotherapy will also complete 1,000 hours of clinical placement. In Limerick, Portlaoise. Kilkenny. Ballinasloe. Co Galway. Clinical placement modules are available in many settings including primary care schools and hospitals. This programme is open to all ages and will help you to become a better nurse.
The theory and practice of physiotherapy will require the integration and synthesis of concepts and theories of the neurological, cardiorespiratory, and musculoskeletal functions.
For the successful rehabilitation and management, of patients with various conditions, it is important to be proficient in the administration of physiotherapy interventions.

Registering as a Canadian Physiotherapist
You have a few steps that you need to take in order become a registered Canadian physiotherapist:
First, you need to choose where to work. Contact the regulator and check what requirements are required for you to work there. In most cases, regulators will require that you complete CAPR’s Educational Credentials and Qualifications Assessment. You don’t have to wait until you get here before starting this.
The assessment verifies that you are equivalent to a Canadian-educated, physiotherapist.
This is where you’ll need to demonstrate your language abilities or take a test.
Assessment fees must be paid.
Quebec’s Ordre professionnel de la physiotherapie de Quebec must assess your credentials (in French only).
You must successfully pass the Physiotherapy Competency Examination, (PCE), administered by CAPR to most regulators.
PCE consists of two components: the clinical and written. Before you are allowed to take the clinical component, the written component must be passed.
To take the exams, you must pay fees
Quebec may require you to attend courses, or satisfy other requirements.
Internationally Educated Physiotherapy Bridging Classes
A Bridging program is for physiotherapists with training that does not meet the standards of Canadian programs.
University of British Columbia. Internationally Educated Physiotherapists Program Preparation is a selfdirected program which assists Internationally Educated Physiotherapists as they prepare to take the national Physiotherapy Competency (PCE). It also allows them to get into clinical physiotherapy. Canadian-trained and certified Physiotherapists are welcome to apply to the IEPEP Program. IEPEP is a combination of theoretical and practicum components. The program also includes workshops and practice exams that examine knowledge and skills as well as clinical reasoning.
University of Alberta. Physiotherapy Alberta and the University of Alberta Department of Physical Therapy are sponsors of AIEPB (Alberta Internationally Educated Physiotherapists Bridging). Alberta Health administers the AIEPB Program. It was developed and is being implemented with grant funding from Health Canada.
Academic course work designed purposely for Internationally Educated Physiotherapists (IEPTs) supports the development of the additional knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning required to meet Canadian entry-to-practice standards. To aid integration, mentorship is offered and clinical placement.
University of Toronto. This program is intended to offer educational opportunities to foreign physical therapists, who are already qualified, in order to gain the knowledge, skills, and clinical reasoning necessary to comply with Canadian entry requirements. The Bridging Program provides cultural and workplace orientation to facilitate success in the workplace. In partnership with the University of Toronto Department of Physical Therapy and Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, the Bridging Program offers internationally-trained physiotherapists an opportunity to link their Canadian credentials to Canadian ones.
SPOT offers the Physiotherapy Equacy Program. This program is available to internationally-trained physiotherapists (ITPTs), who wish to receive a physiotherapy license for Quebec. This is an individualized study program tailored to address each individual needs according to the recommendations issued by the Board of Directors of L’Ordre professionnel de la physiotherapie du Quebec. ITPT students will benefit from the program’s complementary academic and clinical knowledge. This allows them to integrate into the Quebec/Canadian healthcare system.
Professional Qualification Program for Physiotherapists
Universite de Montreal. The professional qualification program (QPP), for physiotherapists trained abroad, is offered by the Universite de Montreal. This program allows qualified candidates to receive the training required to practice physiotherapy in Quebec. This program consists of 54 credit hours over 16 months. It is open to only 26 students.

The differences in the physiotherapy education program can limit professional mobility. This results in differing standards of competency. Thus, it is often necessary to verify clinical competencies through assessments, as well as determining professional attributes and ability to apply competencies in a different practice context, as part of the registration process. It has not been possible to evaluate registration practices. At the moment, it is necessary to review current registration processes in order to improve workforce mobility and efficiency.
Introduction
In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in international health worker migration [1], which includes rising migration among physiotherapists[2]. World Confederation for Physical Therapy, the only international body for physiotherapy recognizes 111 countries as members. While both the WCPT and International Labour Organization have provided guidelines around the definition of physiotherapy, adherance to these guidelines are not enforced and are not a requirement of being a WCPT member [3], [4]. With potential variations in educational, scope, practice and professional title, physiotherapists working from one country might not always be comparable to physiotherapists practicing from another. For the purposes this review, the term physiotherapy encompasses all terms used by the WCPT to define the various professions. They are professionals that provide services to increase movement and functional ability.
The recent migration trend has been driven by increased globalization and a shortage of health service delivery personnel [6]. Notably, the World Health Organization discourages countries that have a low number of skilled workers from relocating to their country. Instead, it emphasizes sustainability by planning for staff retention and worker planning. In a responsible way, skilled migration is useful not only for filling workforce shortages but also to distribute knowledge and improve per capita productivity [9],[10], [11]. Skilled migration is an attractive proposition for many health workers, and may present new job opportunities, higher wages, and increased professional recognition [10]. There are many other factors that can influence your career, such as economic and professional incentives. These have been widely studied and are known as the ‘push & pull’ factor.
Professional regulation should be administered by local authorities to ensure public safety and maintain standards of care. Four key components of regulation include registration, standards for professional competence, proficiency, standards in education, accreditation, professional ethics, and conduct. Registration refers to being placed on a list of suitably qualified individuals who are permitted to use the physiotherapy professional title and perform physiotherapy specific duties [14]. Registration may require an assessment of your professional competence. These standards, along with ethics and conduct guidelines, will determine the ‘fitness of practice’. Parker [16] defined clinical competence as well acceptable professional behaviour and freedom form impairment.
While sensible, the WCPT notes with concern that some of these processes appear to limit worldwide professional mobility [17]. In response to a lack of knowledge and authority regarding international regulation of physiotherapy, the International Network of Physiotherapy Regulatory Authorities was established (INPTRA). INPTRA seeks to foster international cooperation and collaboration in order to improve understanding of regulatory systems within physiotherapy. The Professional Standards Authority’s 2015 report, “Rethinking Regulation”, admits that the current UK health regulation processes are not up to the task of dealing with contemporary regulations. This report points out that the absence of an effective mechanism to assess regulation risks and needs has led to multiple layers of over-complex regulation, which are inefficient and costly. These regulatory processes are not effective or efficient despite rising costs. Not only are they a risk to regulators but also pose potential obstacles to global mobility by causing inefficient and ineffective registration processes. This systematic review was done to gain a better understanding of the registration process and its potential impact on workforce mobility.
