Amazon provides a wide range of policies for their warehouse workers.
Amazon fulfillment centers, according to both former and current employees, will closely monitor the weather conditions and may close locations if they are considered dangerous. Amazon asks employees to notify HR immediately if they feel unsafe.
Amazon follows their Inclement Weather Policy
Multiple sources and staff have stated that Amazon does not follow its Inclement Weather Policy regarding closing down facilities in bad weather.
For example, the Amazon Fulfilment Center stayed open during Hurricane Ida, and employees were still expected to come to work regardless of the streets flooding.
Amazon has maintained their policy that employees can call in to work in the event of bad travel conditions like snow or ice according to certain Amazon employees.
Amazon Employees Able to Refuse To Work In Bad Weather
Amazon workers in most states are entitled to refuse to work when unsafe weather conditions make it difficult for them to arrive safely at work, like heavy snow and icy roads.
Amazon employees can use the UPT (Unpaid Vacation Time Off) option to cover missed work because they have been affected by weather.
Amazon will also refund UPTs to employees later, so that the employee does not lose any time due to unusual weather conditions.
Amazon employees are also allowed to pick PTO (Paid time Off) for working late so they don’t lose their entire work day. However, this time off will not be refunded to the employee.
The good news is that most states allow workers to refuse to work in adverse weather. However, Arkansas and other states have the right to allow their employers to dismiss employees for any reason.
If a potential employee refuses to work under adverse weather conditions, they should familiarize themselves with their local labor laws.
Amazon workers must schedule their time for adverse weather
Amazon employees can’t get to work if bad weather isn’t affecting their local fulfillment centers. They must call HR to tell them that.
Call-ins must be properly recorded by staff.
The UPT is refunded to staff who booked off the time, so staff won’t have to lose any of their paid time.
Amazon Employees Can Be Fired for Missing Work Because of Weather Conditions
Depending on the state where Amazon employees are located, their supervisor may be within their rights to fire a staff member for not showing up to work, even in bad weather conditions.
Arkansas is one example of a state where the employer must agree to weather conditions that are unsafe to travel or drive in. They can also refuse to call-in employees if this does not happen.
Therefore, staff members who are concerned about the weather conditions in their area are encouraged to check their local laws regarding staff termination, as well as communicate with their Amazon supervisor about their concerns.
The majority of employees will have the ability to decline to work in adverse weather conditions.
Based on the supervision they have, Amazon may refuse to hire staff.
Amazon: Is it a safe workplace in adverse weather conditions?
The fulfillment center Amazon employees work at will determine whether their employer considers bad weather when they require staff to report to work.
There are a variety of sources that claim Amazon centres have managed to stay open in the face of severe storms and floods while still expecting their employees to arrive at work.
Consider asking potential staff to review their Amazon fulfillment centers in order to see if there are any concerns about working under adverse weather conditions.

What Is The Inclement Weather Policy?
Inclement-weather policies are written guidelines that set out the company’s expectations in cases of bad weather. By eliminating ambiguity, you can avoid confusion about whether an employee should report to work and how the organization handles employee pay and benefits.9 Feb 2022
Amazon’s Work Conditions Are Very Bad
Injuries sustained by employees in 2017-2018 were nearly twice as common than other warehouses.
Amazon’s bad treatment of employees is why
Amazon fulfillment center employees are complaining a lot. The workers claimed that the warehouses give them backbreaking jobs. They are also upset at the intrusive monitoring technologies that include automated tracking systems and cameras that continuously monitor their movements. 25 Oct 2021
Amazon is going to fire you for not making rate
This allows you to do these things, without fear of receiving manager feedback, warnings, or writing-ups about your rates and TOT. Amazon doesn’t have to fire you for slow rates and TOT related work safety.
