Is Aldi Meat Good In 2022? (Must Read Before Buying)

When meat prices begin to rise, it is important that shoppers keep an eye on what they can afford before purchasing groceries. What is more irritating than making a special trip to get chicken or another item?

Aldi’s just-the-basics-at-ultra-low prices business model has some people wondering if they really can get everything in one place, including their steaks or drumsticks.

  • So, are you wondering whether Aldi’s meat is worth buying? This is what I found!
  • Is Aldi Meat Good In 2022?

Aldi meat has a variety of quality depending on how it’s made. Although their Black Angus beef products get high marks, customers are not satisfied with the quality of their chicken or turkey products. Aldi has a great selection of meats, but they do not have the advantage of an in store butcher.

We’ll explore where Aldi buys their meat and how it compares to other meats.

Why Is Aldi Meat So Cheap?

While it is natural to assume lower quality for low prices, that is not true at Aldi.

Aldi’s pork is inexpensive because it is the same as everything else in the shop. Aldi emphasizes efficiency in its business model which includes a 100 different items, such as store sizes and cart rentals.

I mentioned that Aldi’s beef sourcing from local and regional farms helps in this instance, too; it’s true, by lessening the distance the meat has to be shipped, Aldi also lessens for how long the meat has to be kept cold on the road (so less packaging) and how much fuel the trucks need.

Aldi uses such practices to keep their costs down, which they then can pass on to customers.

Even better, the low price-points extend to specialty meats, like their organic and Never Any! lines.

    Which Aldi is best?

The meat products that consistently receive high marks are Aldi’s USDA Choice and Black Angus beef.

USDA Choice can be defined as meat which meets high quality standards. It is the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s highest-quality designation.

Black Angus beef can only be certified if the cows comply with specific genetic requirements. The hides must also meet at least 51 per cent black standards. The meat they produce is juicy and flavorful.

Aldi offers Black Angus USDA choice bottom round roasts for $4.49 per pound. Giant Eagle, a regional chain, charges $7.99 per pound. This is a significant difference of over $3 per pound in price for high-quality, comparable meat.

Their organic grass-fed, grass-fed ground meat is another popular item. It’s a product that many people don’t know they can even find on cooler shelves. Simply Nature organic beef offers incredible value for only $5.49 a pound.

Aldi’s organic whole chickens and their bison meat (sold in limited quantities as an Aldi Find, so not an Everyday product) also receive rave reviews from shoppers.

    What Aldi Meat is Worst?

Unfortunately, Aldi meats are not always as good quality, especially if they’re compared to other butchers.

Aldi’s chicken breasts/thighs can be seen under the Kirkwood name.

Personal experience has shown that the items need to be carefully trimmed once they arrive at their destination.

It can become quite annoying, especially for those who are looking to rush dinner.

Redditor’s story about Aldi’s turkey also made the rounds. The shopper claimed she was forced to take bone fragments from it.

Aldi’s ground beef can be expensive and leave budget-conscious shoppers wishing that they spent a bit more. Some customers complain about overground beef. This can lead to a texture that is too “mealy”, or overly crumbly.

Aldi ground beef is actually something that I regularly use. I have also tried other types of ground beef (85/15 93/7, 80/20) which I found to be quite good.

Aldi’s is not for you if your preference is high-quality beef, from either a regional or local farmer. It has been ground and processed by an experienced butcher.

    Is Aldi Meat from Where?

Aldi gets its meats from some very surprising places, as we’ve already mentioned.

Aldi’s beef includes cattle from nearby or regional farms. Aldi beef products are likely to come from nearby farms.

This practice is not only a benefit for small-to midsize cattle farmers but it is also great for the environment.

  • Much of Aldi’s chicken products are actually the exact same as Tyson chicken! Aldi has the Kirkwood label, which means you pay less to receive the exact same Tyson chicken. (To see how we found out, check out our article here.)
  • This also means that if you have ever had an issue with Aldi’s Kirkwood chicken, you were having an issue with Tyson.

Aldi does source some of its meat internationally, including its grass-fed all-organic ground beef, but any meat that comes from a country other than the US must declare its origins on the packaging.

  • Conclusion
  • Aldi meat can be either good or bad depending on the type you buy. But even the meat that might not fall on the “awesome” side of the scale is of a reasonably decent quality, so I don’t think you have to buy your meat elsewhere if you don’t want to.

  • All-in-one grocery shopping for your convenience
  • Are Meats from Aldi safe?

The meat you get from Aldi is likely USDA Choice. It is the second-highest grade, and has less marbling and is generally less tender. You will also get less flavor or juice if there is less marbling. Aldi is unlikely to have the finest steak if you are looking for steak.

    Is Aldi Meat Poor Quality?

Aldi is committed to promoting Great British quality and many of its products come from the UK. All of our fresh meat and dairy products are sourced from British Red Tractor-approved farms.

    Is Aldi Meat High Quality?

They sell meat of the same quality as you’d find at other grocery stores but without the name-brand label. For lower prices, we are willing to give up designer double-loins! This is our budget-shopping guide (with or with out an Aldi near you). July 16, 2018
