The average American household doesn’t want to spend too much on groceries. It’s not the hardest thing to do. But, we do our best to make it as easy as possible.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi doesn’t always have the same prices as Walmart. This is especially true for produce and seafood. Walmart, whose stores outnumber Aldi 2-to-1, has dropped prices on many of their store brand, Great Value, items. This has created instances where Aldi is not the cheapest, though usually, the difference is only a few cents.
Let’s begin by looking at common grocery items, and let’s compare the results.
This is a simple method I used to keep it easy.
Aldi’s and Walmart’s prices are subject to slight variations depending on where they live. Aldi doesn’t have an online price list except Instacart. In that case, it can add up. I used the Aldi price guide as well as receipts from the previous year.
Walmart.com is the website I used to find the address and the price for the Great Lakes city.
I only compared the most popular items in grocery stores, using each store’s own label when possible and noting any differences where necessary.
There are no other options. Items can only be compared by the price per ounce and pound.

Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for a majority of the produce prices.
Aldi claims that it receives new orders every day, and the stock rotates – so there is no need to complain about the quality of Aldi’s produce.
*Note* Tyson brand pork loin is the only one comparable to Walmart’s.
Aldi outsells Walmart across all meat prices with the exception of seafood.

Because Walmart does not carry their own bagel thins brand, I used the Thomas brand to substitute. Walmart isn’t as good at comparing to theirs if it made its own brand.
Aldi’s bread is the winner in every category except three.
Aldi’s specialty, flavored Ice Cream is almost unfairly compared with Walmart’s Prices, as Walmart does not make its own.
However, this is what they sell that is comparable, and Aldi will save you two whole dollars! And people absolutely love the flavors.
Walmart continues to be competitive in the category of pasta and grains. Aldi is even better when it comes instant white rice.
However, you can save money if you cook a lot of rice.
Walmart has a lot of great deals for families who love Triscuit and chip knock-offs. Aldi, however, is the clear winner in almost every snack category.
Walmart has a lower price than Aldi on raw honey. But that isn’t surprising when you consider Aldi was a post-WWII grocery store with basic goods for any country recovering from a natural disaster.
Aldi offers the best prices for condiments and oil stocking.
Aldi has a great price on essential baking ingredients, which is something you should appreciate if you are a frequent baker.
The 50 cent box of baking soda is the most impressive item, a full 32 cents cheaper than Walmart’s already wallet-friendly price.
It’s important that you remember that dairy prices are subject to fluctuation. Aldi beats Walmart every time, with the exception of a 1-cent difference for butter.

Aldi might not always be cheaper than Walmart. However, that should not discourage customers. Aldi’s per-shopping cart prices will be less if you do not plan to prepare a seafood meal, and you would definitely see an increase in your overall spending over time.
