Contactless payments have become safer and easier to make with thousands of merchants, grocers and other service providers through near-field communication (or NFC).
Companies like Apple rely on NFC to support their Apple Pay technology, which allows iPhone users to pay at cash registers or online using their Apple Wallet.
So, is USPS accepting Apple Pay payments? This is your chance to be amazed at how the USPS handles Apple Pay.
Are USPS to Accept Apple Pay by 2022
The United States Postal Service does not currently accept Apple Pay or any other forms of NFC payment, either online or in post offices as of 2022. Customers are restricted to cash or credit cards as payment options. Current card readers are equipped for NFC, but USPS keeps that technology deactivated.
Why isn’t USPS accepting Apple Pay?
USPS doesn’t have a specific reason for not accepting Apple Pay. But some Redditors do.
USPS does have access to millions of peoples’ sensitive information, plus as a federal service, the organization’s list of regulations would be quite stringent.
This could definitely account for why the post office locations do not accept near-field communication (NFC) technology like Apple Pay.
This was also confirmed by the fact that, despite their being fully equipped for Apple Pay/NFC, my local credit card machine processed only basic debit card transactions at a remarkably slow pace.
Apple Pay cannot be accepted due to the complexity of USPS’s high-speed systems and its federal affiliation.
What Types of Payment does USPS Accept?
Despite their lack of cutting-edge payment methods, USPS nonetheless accepts many other methods both in post offices and online. These are:
If you are not able to cash your checks at the bank, this is the place where they accept them.
Does USPS Take Samsung Pay?
Strangely, while Apple Pay may not be accepted in certain locations, other post offices accept Samsung Pay as well.
Customers also reported finding more updated kiosks in their local post offices. Samsung Pay card users that have the cards above tied into their account have been permitted to use these devices.
Although contactless payment is not an option at most post offices, it does exist in some.
Apple Pay cannot be accepted in these areas as of now. Samsung phones can instead use SamsungPay to make payments.
Even worse, the Samsung Pay function seems to catch clerks off-guard.
Redditor X commented that one Redditor had to type in their PIN, and then sign.
NFC can work but isn’t 100% “contactless”. You must use the pinpad or pen.
One commenter also encountered resistance from another when they tried contactless payments. A manager said that the policy was not to take any other payment methods than those offered by smartphones.
Perhaps they forgot to turn off NFC at their location.
Can You Pay USPS With PayPal?
USPS announced, in June 2012, that PayPal and PayPal would allow customers to pay online.
Only online payment is possible using USPS Click-N–Ship.
Customers love this feature as it allows them to transfer funds without having to carry their credit cards.
PayPal makes it easy to use PayPal for payment. This eliminates the need to input financial information about a whole card onto the USPS site.
This arrangement was convenient for consumers because most online merchants already use PayPal to receive payment for goods and services.

Although Apple Pay is currently not accepted at USPS, there are clearly all of the necessary pieces for it.
Along with accepting major credit/debit cards and Paypal (online), USPS appears to accept Samsung Pay in some of their post office locations.
