  • 1. Secure all points of entry to your house. This includes cracks in doors, windows and doorjambs.
  • 2. Clean up clutter in storage areas because this can lead to a buildup of dust that attracts bugs.
  • 3. Vacuum all items you intend to throw away. There may be bedbugs inside the packaging material, especially if it was secondhand.
  • 4. Before you wear any clothing again, wash it in warm water and bleach. I have never experienced bedbug problems but I did some research to find ways that I could “control my fate” against these pesky critters.

Here are some ideas to stop them.

  • 1) Housekeeping! You must do your housekeeping. Bleach can remove the glue bed bugs use for sticking to walls and other surfaces. It will also stop infestations before they start!
  • 2) Protection of your Bedding- Wash all clothes in hot water. Even if you don’t have any, heat can destroy eggs.

Although they’re not the most effective essential oils, these are still useful in deterring bedbugs.

  1. At least 120°F is the ideal temperature to dry and wash bedding and clothes. Heat is one of the best ways to kill bed bugs.
  2. Vacuum regularly – at minimum once per week
  3. You can freeze items that you cannot heat or launder.
